With its innovative solution, Carnex plans to utilise by-products from the meat processing industry (bones, tissue and blood) as raw materials in the company’s biogas plant. The total amount of by-products generated each month is around 250 tonnes. This waste will be used to generate energy in the biogas plant and the thermal energy from the biogas plant will be used to heat water, reducing electricity consumption for water heating by around 1,200,000 kWh per year. After the hot water from the biogas plant has been used, the water is fed back into the biogas plant and reused.
