The company “Eko Bio Invest” collects fruit and vegetable waste from the city of Čačak’s budget-funded kitchens – in kindergartens, schools, student dormitories, hospitals and prisons. This waste is used to produce granulate from which single-use products are made, such as foil, bags, cups and plates. The products made from this innovative material are completely biodegradable. This idea tackles two major environmental problems at the same time: food waste and the consumption of plastic. In urban areas, food waste accounts for up to 50% of the waste that ends up in landfills, releasing methane, a very harmful greenhouse gas.
